Indoor plants, or otherwise called houseplants, are the perfect way to enhance the appearance of your home. Just as the plants that are grown outdoors, the indoor plants need to be carefully looked after. There are many benefits of having indoor plants such as the fact that they help clean the air inside, they consume the carbon dioxide and provide oxygen for breathing and they are great for decorating the home. Therefore, if you want to grow gorgeous indoor plants, here is what you have to do.
Select the Plants
This is the first thing you have to consider when you want to grow indoor plants. You have to select the plants that can resist to the indoor condition and to place them according to the plants’ requirements. There are plants that love the light, but there are also some that prefer moderate light. Moreover, you have to decide if you want plants with beautiful green leaves or flowering plants that will enhance your entire home.
Use Well Balanced Soil
You have to use well-balanced soil and check the pH level. Usually, indoor plants need a slightly acidic soil that contains nutrients. Also, once in a while, you should use fertilizers because they keep the soil supplied with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.
When it comes to watering, you need to keep the soil in the containers moist, but never wet. Keep in mind that if the soil is kept too damp or too dry the roots of the plant will begin to die and this will eventually lead to the death of the plant. Therefore, you have to water the plants until they start to drain out the bottom and you have to allow the soil to completely dry out before you water them again. Also, you can add extra humidity to your plants by using a damp cloth to wipe the leaves or you can spray-mist them.
LED Grow Lights
In case your house doesn’t receive too much light, you can try using LED grow lights that will help them grow much faster. These lights are environmental-friendly lights that are perfect for any indoor environment. Recent studies have shown that the LED grow lights can safely and effectively support the growth of indoor plants. Moreover, these lights consume less energy so you don’t have to worry about the electricity costs.
In general, most indoor plants prefer temperatures between 65 and 75 degrees during the day and between 60 and 65 degrees during the night. Of course, the temperature may vary according to the type of the plant so you should be careful about this aspect.
